Rekendkundig model groene daken Watergraafsmeer
THE COSTS AND BENEFITS OF GREEN ROOFS IN AMSTERDAM (2012)
Science/Sustainability
An interdisciplinary study, where I worked together with a physicist and an economist to assess the profitability of the implementation of green roofs in Amsterdam Watergraafsmeer.
We researched the effects that green roofs have on biodiversity, water retention, heat isolation and CO2 reduction and integrated that in an economic social cost-benefit analysis.
Results show that green roofs are in the first instance more expensive to implement than standard bitumen roofs, but are in the long term more profitable for both Watergraafsmeer's municipality and its inhabitants.
